Job description
Introduction
Auto Electrician is responsible for providing the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical wiring and computer-based equipment in mining and related equipment. This includes LDV’s, trailers, trucks, agricultural equipment, earth moving equipment, Excavators, Dozers and CAS System. Auto electricians also work on the components of a vehicle’s electrical system (battery, starter motor, alternator, fuse box, wiring and connectors), as well as on all the other electrical equipment and accessories in a vehicle.
Duties & Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs, Breakdowns, Installations
Work with computer-controlled engines, management systems and other systems as well.
Service identifies and repair faults on electronic machines such as electronic field systems, electronic gear selection, air conditioning and monitoring systems and safety systems.
Install electrical components and equipment such as gauges, lights, alternators, starter motors and wiring looms.
Test the repaired parts/vehicle for safety, using special tools in order to ensure the proper operation and effectiveness of maintenance activities.
Install electrically operated accessories such as radios, strobes, cameras and convertors.
Use of meters, diagnostics instruments, laptops and circuit diagrams to find electrical faults.
Testing and replacing of faulty alternators, generators, starter motors, magnetos and related items such as voltage regulators and batteries.
Use hand tools, specialized electrical tools and instruments and machines, including drills, grinders, presses, and lathes etc.
Solder or weld when repairing electrical parts, sell and install electrical parts and accessories.
Policies and Procedures
The auto electrician should comply with Mine Health and Safety act and adhere to the mine and safety procedures and policies.
The auto electrician will also ensure that he have the correct PPE on when commencing any work.
Staff Development and Growth
Complete IDP and drive your own IDP,
Ensure attendance of performance reviews each quarter and submission of relevant evidence.
Ensure attendance of Safety & HR Induction.
Desired Experience & Qualification
• Matric or Grade 12
• N2 – N4 Electrical + Auto Electrical Trade Test Certificate
• 3 - 5 years’ previous working experience as Auto Electrical Technician
• Driver’s License
